Orange Tribal Print Maxi Print Skirt White Tank Top Black Plus Size Fashion Blogger Melissa Geddis
Link-Up
I have had a whole lot going on in my personal life in the last several weeks, but I so appreciate that one of things that has been consistent in my life and that I know I can look forward to every week has been this link up and I super appreciate all of you for being apart of that and making this happen!! P.S. My dad is doing better. He is out of the hospital and in a nursery facility getting rehab so he can hopefully recover and come back home soon .... Please scroll to the bottom of page for the link up. Thanks!!

About the Outfit
I have had this skirt for probably over 10 years. If I remember correctly my friend Saudeka give it to me cause it didn't fit her right. I think it was actually meant to be a tube dress but I have always worn it as a skirt. You may have noticed I have been rocking the maxi's lately like here and here and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. lol To me this is one of my favorite spring/summer kind of looks. I love a long flowing bohemian skirts with a tank top or camisole. This look was pretty much a staple for me in college and the bright color and cute patchwork details of this skirt just make me smile. It's amazing how when you get a piece of clothing that is so true to you personal style, you can have it for a really long time and still love it. I also had a lot of fun playing and taking pictures in this skirt. Hope you like them too! What's one of your go to spring and/or summer look?

Black and Pink Peplum Dress

Black lace top pink peplum skirt dress Plus Size Fashion Blogger Melissa Geddis

I got this dress the last time I was in Los Angeles at my beloved Saturday morning sample sales in downtown LA. Every Saturday the wholesale part of the fashion district has these amazing sales from about 6am - 10:30am. Usually you need a wholesale license and you have to buy multiple sizes of one style when shopping at these stores but during this time they sale individual pieces of their excess merchandise and you get wholesale sale pricing. Like for example I got this dress for only $7. Over the years these sales had gotten more and more popular and crowded. The last time I went it was not quite the same. There were less merchants out and less people. Apparently the LA Fashion District police have been cracking down on merchants selling without a license and/or on the side walk vs a store, or having some of their merchandise on the side walk to attract customers. They even had like a mini raid while we were down there, it was a really interesting experience. I was told if merchants get caught they get their merchandise confiscated and a huge fine. So consequently there are less merchants out and less people. I just hope they don't stop it all together cause this is truly one of my favorite things to do when I go back to LA to visit. I will check it out next time I go to LA and if people are interested I can even do a full post on it and how you can get the good deals if you visit LA.

Hey ladies, sorry there is no outfit post or featured fashionistas for this week but they took my dad back to ICU last night so I was in the hospital pretty late and therefore didn't have time to put a full post together like I would have wanted to. The good news is that when I left him he seemed pretty alert and stable. He actually kicked me out, cause he wanted me to go home so I can get some sleep for work. Just like my daddy to be worried about me when he is the one in ICU. I told him his only job is to be okay, hold on and stay stable until I am able to get back to him after work today. He told me he would. :-)

Well I can't wait to see what outfits you link up this week!!!!

Black Maxi Dress - Either dress it up or dress it down + GIVEAWAY

Mahogany Closet Black Maxi Dress Melissa Geddis

One of my favorite things to wear especially in the spring and summer are maxi dresses. I think they are so stylish and versatile. You may remember I wore one a couple weeks ago here. This one I picked up a couple months ago at my favorite store, yup you guessed it Ross, for only $8.99. I almost returned it because my lil sister told me it was ugly. She didn't like the jeweled details. But it was such a great deal and I liked it so decided, who cares what she thinks LOL. And I am so glad I kept it. To me this is the perfect dress to wear with sandals to go to a fair, festival, wine tasting, lunch with friends or any other daytime event and if you have something to go to later you can just throw on a pair of heels. I styled it here both way. What do you think?

Oh how I love free stuff and a giveaway! For more information on my $300 Target Gift Card Giveaway check below!

Mahogany Closet Mondays Fashion Link Up - Playing with Interesting Color Combinations Cobalt Blue, Yellow, Green

I first want to say I super appreciate all of you ladies who have sent me such sweet messages/comments and well wishes about my dad. For a little while it seemed like his health had declined further and he may not make it, but over last couple days he was been making some progress and getting better. I tell him everyday as long as he just get a little better each day then we are on our way to getting him well and out of the hospital. I thank you so much for your prayers, positive thoughts and support!

About the Outfit
I love bold colors and playing with interesting color combinations. Bright yellow and cobalt blue is already one of my favorite color combs. I have been wanted to experiment with triad colors (3 colors evenly spaced on the color wheel). These are not quite triad colors, but to me play on the same idea of mixing three very different colors together that still compliment each other. I knew I wanted to wear the dress and shoes together and happen to pick up the purse and thought, I think they all would look nice together. What do you think? I love it, but please feel free to be honest. I love to hear what other people really think.

Strappy Heels - GoJane.com

Her mix of polka dots and stripes is so cute. I also love how she is not afraid to be bold and try new and intersting things. Check her out

Love how she really elevated these jogger pants. Check out the her post to see all the different ways she styled them. Love them all.

Mahogany Closet Mondays Fashion Link up #11

Hey Guys, please excuse the bare bones nature of the post and fashion link up this week. My dad is currently in the hospital in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit). He had a stroke over the weekend and we also found out he has a serious heart problem as well. It's been touch and go but for now he seems pretty stable so I am just working on staying positive and sending him lots of love, good energy and prayers.
Today there will be no outfit post or featured fashionista from last week. My apologies but hopefully I will be able to get things back in full swing by next week. Thank you guys for your understanding and your continued support of the link up. This has been one of my favorite things I have done so far as a fashion blogger. I really love being able to see your posts, read your comments, post comments and make new connections and new blogger friends. It's been really fun to see the link up grow and I thank all you guys for that!!!

Black and White Textured Plaid Pants and Black Velvet Vest

When I saw these pants I fell in love. Not only do they have such a cute design but their also textured. The black feels like velvet. I don't know why but that just makes them extra special to me. I love the feel. The vest is actually a men's vest. It went to a suit my boyfriend has that he doesn't wear anymore. I just cinched it in at the waist to give the right shape and voila!! (It was actually his idea, good job baby lol) What do you guys think?

You know I love a good deal and this outfit definitely fits. I got the pants for $17 at Ross. The vest was borrowed/gifted so it was free. Those are my $5 thrift store shoes that I also wore here and here. The glasses I got for $5 in LA at a souvenir shop and the purse was a DIY project that you can also see here and here. It's hard to know exactly how much it cost to make the purse because I used some materials for other projects too, but I paid about $15 for the materials. $42 for an entire outfit included shoes and accessories is a pretty good deal in my book!
